This Week Ten Years Ago

The Week of 2/12/2006

Witty one liner: I used to have schizophrenia, but we’re okay now

Quote of the week: [It was cut out]

Offbeat oddity (courtesy of the planner): It’s supposedly impossible to sneeze with your eyes open

I can understand why I thought that one liner was funny when I was in high school, but now it mostly makes me cringe at how insensitive it is. The state of mental health in this country is abysmal. Depression and anxiety are still seen as weakness instead of illnesses that require treatment and understanding. Just because you can’t see it and understand it, doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist, it’s just easier to hide. As someone who suffers through anxiety all the time and who has a direct line of depression on my father’s side, it is frustrating when people still don’t understand or believe in mental illness and insist on seeing it as a personal failing.

The quote of the week was literally cut out of the planner so I could use it in a senior memory book project. So I will give you a 2016 Michelle quote: “Accept the challenges so that you can feel the exhilaration of victory.” – George S. Patton. I most certainly felt the exhilaration of victory on Sunday when I was finally all moved in to my new apartment! YAAAAY NEW STUDIO APARTMENT!!!

I believe that it is impossible to sneeze with your eyes open. I have never managed it, but if there is someone out there who has, lemme know!!

    Hey Michelle,
In my opinion this video is slightly terrifying, but here ya go: someone sneezing with her eyes open.

    Enjoy!

    1. Holy crap Sabrina!

That is slightly terrifying! I was cringing as she kept wiggling the paper towel up her nose and then that final sneeze! Thank you!

      Cheers!
