Swallowing Down Her Pain

She looks like she is swallowing down her pain one sour and bitter mouthful at a time, her eyes downcast, holding her red (p)leather purse with black polka dots tightly. Her left hand is wrapped around the handle and her right is curled under the bottom, securing it in her lap. Her coat is a puffy white winter coat that a friend of mine would call a “snow bunny” coat. Her pants are black and her hair is parted to the right, some of it tucked behind her left ear. She closes her eyes against the rattling of the train. Her shoes are black and shiny and her socks are white.
